Church & Light at St. Matthieu

About a 10 minute drive from our "home" lie the ruins of a Medieval church, chapel and a much more recent lighthouse on the Point of St. Matthieu. The Church and Abbey construction was started in the early 13th Century and, after much delay, due to the ravaging of various wars during that period, it was not completed completed until the late 1500s. The lighthouse came along quite sometime later as you can see. The chapel has been mostly restored but the church and abbey itself has remained due to more recent wars and the ravages of time and weather. This is a beautiful spot as you can see and not too far away from the ruins there is a touching monolith and museum which pays homage to those in the French Navy who gave their lives during WWI and WWII. This is a very impressive place.
