Gus' Farm

During our visit to Aalesund Gus' cousin, Berit, who is very involved with family genealogy, said that she had located the farm of Gus ancestors. This is the Engeland farm. Gus' middle name is Engeland....Gustav Engeland Karlsen.
Off we went into the Norwegian farm lands about 2.5 hours to find it and that we did.!

There is actually a very distant relative relative still living there. He is Peter Karlsen. He no longer farms the property but leases the land to the neighbor. We did not get to meet Peter but did meet his neighbor and family. There
are some photos below that document our visit. You will notice by the one caution sign that this must be a Gus Engeland Karlsen farm.

Cousins in Aalesund(ohlesund)

Aalesund is on the Northern Norwegian Coast about 8 hours NW of Oslo and that is where Gus' father's family is from. We visited there with Gus cousin, Berit Carlsen, with her significant other, Bjoern and her brother, Finn(also Gus' cousin), and his wife, Siri, who were visiting from Bergen. It was a terrific surprise for Gus to see Finn as it had been 60 years since they seen each other. WOW! The we're all so very wonderful to us and we had a fantastic three days with them.

Berit has a small storage house in their back yard with a grass roof that I WANT.

More Cousins

The below photo is of Bodil Aamodt and her close companion, Ivar. We always have a great time with them and usually spend much time with them near Oslo. Bodil's Mother was Tante Sigrid and unfortunately passed away a few years ago. We all miss her very much. She was terrific and always to referred me and Gus as "the children" and baked fresh bread every day. She was the best. Most of the time we were here this trip they were at their charming "hutte" near Roros, a lovely vacation village in Northern Norway with their beautiful,sweet yellow lab, Mila.

Gus's Cousins

We are are leaving today for France and must give a fair farewell to Gus' wonderful cousins, Knut Viken and his beautiful and charming wife, Bodil Irene. Some of you may remember them as they visited us on Peaks Island in 1996. Bodil speaks perfect English as she grew up in Canada and Knut understands everything and speaks better English than I do Norwegian. They have hosted us on and off for about two weeks of our month's stay here and provided us with a terrific home base while here in Norway. They are sooo much fun! We hope they will return to the States again soon.

Wildlife, Water Falls and Green Water

Our big trip thru the wilds of Norway is winding down. These photos feature some water falls near a fabulous salmon restaurant, a bit of wild life and the greenest streams, lakes and rivers I have ever scene.
Will see Gus in a few days as his boating adventure will be over soon as well.
